Regular medical exam, Liver function test can prevent Cirrhosis – US based Doctor

Liver damage is increasingly caused by lifestyle-related issues such as poor diet, alcohol consumption, obesity, constant misuse of drugs as well hepatitis infection.


This was made known during an interactive radio programme “Do Good, Change lives Hour” on Family Love FM, monitored by Dailytrail news by Dr Ifegwu Ibe; an Assistant Clinical Professor of Anatomic Pathology at both City of Hope Cancer Center Duarte and City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center.


Speaking on the key role the liver plays in the human body, Dr Ibe noted that the liver like the body’s chemical factory, processes nutrients, filters blood, and helps remove toxins, as he further stated the types of liver diseases which includes alcohol liver disease, hepatitis amongst others.

He spoke on the possibility of developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, especially in people who are overweight or obese, stressing that the incorrect use of over-the -counter medications puts one at risk of liver damage or cirrhosis as he advised for individuals to maintain a healthy diet and a healthy weight.

The Assistant Clinical Professor of Anatomic Pathology recommended for individuals to get regular checkups, adding that simple blood tests and imaging can detect liver issues early, when they are most treatable.
