Onuigbo hails Nigeria’s participation at just concluded COP30, calls for collective efforts in implementing resolutions reached
The Member representing Southeast on the Board of the North East Development Commission NEDC, Hon. Sam Onuigbo has commended Nigeria’s active participation at the just concluded 30th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2025 (COP 30), noting that Nigeria has shown reasonable level of commitment over the past few years in implementing resolutions reached at the COP conferences held over the years.
Speaking during Family Love FM’s program “Legislative Express”, monitored by Dailytrailnews, Onuigbo who represented Ikwuano/Umuahian North and South Federal Constituency in the 8th and 9th National Assembly and the Sponsor of the Climate Change Act, explained that the essence and benefits of the various COP conferences over the years which he has been part of in the last 10 years, is for nations to commit to necessary actions to be able to reduce the rise in temperature which he said contributes to the disruptions experienced globally.

Onuigbo who is the Chairman of the Committee on Security, Climate Change and Special Interventions at the NEDC, maintained that Nigeria as a country has so far made tremendous progress in trickling down policies and actions concerning climate resolutions to the three tiers of government to fasttrack impact.

He explained that despite the seeming non participation of big countries like the US, Miami, etc, Africa showed strong presence at the event as well as active participation.

He noted the role of state governments across the federation in domesticating the Climate change Act down to the Local Government, adding that various states in Nigeria now have developed their own Climate Change frame work, as he called on others to emulate.

The COP30 event which held in Belem Brazil, kick started on 10th November 2025 and came to a climax on the 21st of November 2025, with the presence and participation of different countries of the world.
