Onuigbo extolls Women, commends giant strides in community development

The Member Representing the South East on the Board of North East Development Commission, Chief Sam Onuigbo has eulogized and extolled the giant strides of women in community development.


Onuigbo stated this during the 2024 Women’s Annual August Meeting held at the community Primary school Obuohia Obi-Ibere in Ikwuano Local Government Area, the former Federal Lawmaker for Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency commended and described women as pillars of Development, peace and proper upbringing in the community.

He appreciated their efforts in promoting peace in and promised to give massive support as they carry out their community Development projects.

The Chairman, Committee on Security, Climate Change and Special Interventions in NEDC also called on community leaders, youths and other stakeholders to take the protection of public infrastructure in their communities as their core responsibility and join hands with the government to jealously guard public infrastructure in their domain against vandalism as he expressed concern that some projects he attracted to his community and others were being threatened by vandals.


His appeal was in response to the concern raised by the women’s National President, Pastor princess Chinyere Onuigbo, in her speech at the annual event who had raised the alarm over the incessant cases of vandalism in the community, citing the continued destruction and stealing of equipment from the public hospital and school in the area.


In presenting her remarks on behalf of the women, the National President Obuohia Obi -Ibere Development Union Women’s Wing Pastor princess Onuigbo stated that the Theme for this year’s August meeting is “Let us Rise and Build according to God’s pattern”, which aligns with the Abia state theme of utilizing growth opportunities amid current economic challenges.

She further reeled out some major achievements recorded by the women which includes erecting physical infrastructures, supporting Education for their Children and prayers for sustaining enduring peace for the overall development of the community.

On his part, the Mayor Ikwuano Local Government Area Hon. Osinachi Nwaka described women as community builders and advised that women should be encouraged to come together to build a society.
