Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North, and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has firmly responded to a recent statement by his colleague, Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu the Deputy Speaker House of Representative, in which Kalu declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take over Abia State by 2027.

In a message addressed to Kalu, Aguocha emphasized that “there is no vacancy in Abia State in 2027,” reaffirming the strong leadership of Governor Alex Otti under the Labour Party.

Aguocha expressed surprise and disappointment at Kalu’s remarks, which included claims of loyalty to the APC and an open declaration of Abia becoming an APC state in the next governorship election.

The statement, which was made public through a trending video, portrayed Kalu’s personal opinions as “condescending, denigrating, and disrespectful” toward Governor Otti, the Labour Party, and the people of Abia State.

Aguocha called on Kalu to prioritize his legislative responsibilities and work towards the common good of Abia State and the Southeast, rather than focusing on speculative political ambitions.

He also criticized Kalu’s emphasis on his ranking as “No. 6” in the federal leadership hierarchy, suggesting that it distracted from the more pressing issues facing the state.

The Honourable Member stressed that, under Governor Otti’s leadership, Abia State has experienced a new era of positive governance, and any attempts to undermine this progress would be met with resistance from the people of Abia.

Aguocha urged his colleague to embrace unity and humility in his political engagements, stating that the people of Abia will continue to support Governor Otti’s efforts to transform the state.

In conclusion, Aguocha reiterated that Abia State is on a path of progress and development, and any attempts to derail this progress by political maneuvering would not be tolerated. He also reminded Kalu that the Labour Party won Bende Federal Constituency in 2023 and could do so again if necessary.

This response highlights the ongoing political discourse in Abia State as leaders position themselves for the 2027 elections, with Aguocha making it clear that the Labour Party remains firmly in control.
