‘Moses injury huge loss to Russian league’

Former Russia midfielder Diniyar Bilyaletdinov has labelled the injury to Nigerian Victor Moses a big blow to Spartak Moscow and the entire Russian Premier League.

Moses suffered a serious injury during the first half of Spartak Moscow’s 2-0 win against Ural on match-day four of the Russian Premier League, with the former Chelsea man going down with no contact from the opposition, before being stretchered off the pitch.

The club, however, confirmed that the Nigerian had suffered an Achilles tendon injury and could face up to six months out of action.

According to Bilyaletdinov, who began his career at Lokomotiv Moscow, where he made 185 appearances, Moses’ injury is a huge loss for the entire league.

“Of course, Moses is missing. He stands out for his skill in our championship. You can’t just make up for a loss like that,” Bilyaletdinov was quoted as saying by Sport Express.

“In the absence of European competition, not everyone wants to go to us. This is a loss, not only for Spartak, but for the entire league.”

Moses underwent a successful operation on his Achilles early this month and should his recovery go according to plan, the Nigerian, who had helped league leaders Spartak pick up 10 points from the opening four games, is expected back against Ural on March 4, 2023.
