The proposed modular refinery to be established within the Abia Industrial and Innovation park will begin production in 2025.

The refinery is the first project to break ground at the Abia Industrial estate which was launched on the 30th of September 2023 by Gov. Alex Otti in a quest to project the state as an investment destination.

Commissioner for information Prince Okey Kanu alongside his Petroleum ministry counterpart Prof. Joel Ogbonna who made this known to newsmen at Government House Umuahia after the state exco meeting said once the refinery comes on stream, job opportunities will be created for the teaming youth in excess of 2,000.

He noted that refined products will made available through the coming on board of the modular refinery as the state government was poised to reap from the rich mineral deposits in the state made possible by the functionality of the refinery which will invariably increase the Internally Generated Revenue IGR of the state.

The Commissioner also stated that the state government is clamping down on touting warning that anyone caught harassing members of the public in the name of revenue collection shall be arrested and prosecuted.

This warning comes following reports of illegal revenue collection by unauthorized persons in parts of Aba and Umuahia.
