First Baby of the Year 2025: Abia First Lady Visits Newborns, Gives Gifts, Cash, Calls for exclusive Breastfeeding for First Six Months of Baby’s Life
The Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has reiterated the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services across the state.
The Abia First Lady who stated this during her visit and celebration of Abia first baby of the year, Master Chiudo Favour, alongside three other newborns at the Aba South Primary Health Care Center, underscored the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby’s life, urging mothers to embrace the practice.
As part of the celebration, Mrs. Otti presented ₦500,000 to Master Favour and ₦300,000 each to the other three babies. Additionally, the families received 50kg bags of rice, sets of beverages, baby clothing, and other essential items, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to maternal and child welfare.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Otti congratulated the families and stated “Today, we celebrate life and the beautiful journey of motherhood.”
She continued. “Our administration is committed to ensuring that every mother and child in Abia State has access to quality healthcare. This is why we are upgrading health centers across the state to meet global standards.”
Mrs. Otti further said” Your children are our future, and their foundation begins with proper nutrition and care. I encourage all mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding—it is the greatest gift you can give your newborns for their health and growth,” she advised.
She also addressed healthcare workers at the center, commending their dedication and encouraging them to continue their lifesaving efforts. “Your tireless efforts in saving lives and ensuring safe deliveries do not go unnoticed. This administration recognizes your sacrifices and will continue to support you with the resources and facilities you need to excel,” she stated.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Enoch Uche, and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Maureen Aghukwa, praised Mrs. Otti’s visit, describing her as a beacon of hope for families. They also lauded Governor Alex Otti’s administration for transforming healthcare infrastructure across the state.
Chief Obilor Anyanwu, Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, commended Mrs. Otti’s humanitarian efforts, saying, “Her Excellency has once again shown us the true meaning of leadership and compassion. Abia State is blessed to have her.”
Mrs. Comfort Favour, mother of the first baby of the year, expressed profound gratitude to Mrs. Otti, thanking her for her generosity and praying for divine blessings upon her and the state government.
The celebration continued at the Federal Medical Center, Umuahia, where Mrs. Otti visited babies born this year and their families. She distributed additional gifts, including baby supplies and other essentials, to spread joy and hope among new mothers. “Every child born in Abia State is a blessing, and it is our duty to support families during these precious moments,” she said.
The event, attended by top government officials, underscored the administration’s commitment to maternal and child welfare, ensuring that no family is left behind in building a healthier and more prosperous Abia State.
