The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to harmonisation as the approved framework for conducting its forthcoming ward and local government congresses nationwide.

Speaking at the Renewed Hope Partners Office in Umuahia, Kalu explained that the strategy was endorsed by the party’s leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to safeguard unity, prevent factional disputes, and deepen internal cohesion within the party.

He stressed that harmonisation should not be misconstrued as a departure from democratic ideals, but rather viewed as a deliberate approach designed to foster inclusiveness, balance competing interests, and ensure that stakeholders feel represented from the grassroots to the state level.

Describing the APC as a collective platform, Kalu maintained that no individual interest should supersede that of the party. As a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and caucus, he revealed that the party had resolved to eliminate parallel congresses and avoid processes capable of igniting internal conflicts.

According to him, whenever disagreements emerged in some states, President Tinubu insisted that NEC decisions must stand, prompting swift action from the National Chairman and the National Working Committee to restore order.

Kalu disclosed that earlier misunderstandings in Abia State required his personal intervention to ensure seamless implementation of the harmonised structure and strengthen grassroots participation.
He announced that ward congresses are scheduled for February 25, while local government congresses will take place on February 26. To ensure transparency, he added that national congress, screening, and appeal committees have been deployed, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) set to monitor the process.

Chairman of the APC Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, Emmanuel Goar, assured members that the harmonisation directive had been fully implemented and pledged that the exercise would reflect the collective will of stakeholders.

Similarly, Chairman of the Abia seven-man liaison committee, Mac Wabara, expressed appreciation for the trust placed in the committee, promising a peaceful, credible, and widely accepted congress.

Party activities are already underway across Abia State, with officials urging members to cooperate and uphold discipline in the interest of unity and future electoral success.
