AIIP : “Citing of a Modular Refinery in Abia will see to the maximization of the Oil & Gas value chain” – Commissioner for Petroleum Prof. Ogbonna

Abia state government has reiterated that the establishment of the Abia Industrial Innovation Park (AIIP) located in the oil-bearing Owaza, Ukwa West Local Government will amongst other things achieve the full maximization of the oil and gas value chain potential.

Speaking as a Guest on Family Love FM’s Special Interview Session, the state Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources Professor Joel Ogbonna who restated the state Government’s commitment to see to the presence of a modular refinery by December 2025, further stated that the huge benefits of citing a refinery in a given area will be greatly enjoyed by the host community as contained in the Local Content Act, stressing that all of these will come to fruition when the refinery comes on board.

Professor Ogbonna noted that though the bottle necks and encumbrances around access to crude in Nigeria cannot be overlooked, the government was following all due processes involved to clear all the potential roadblocks to crude availability including the discovery and subsequent rejuvenation of 100 capped oil wells to boost oil availability for the off take of the refinery in the state and the attendant full value chain.
