Abia records one confirmed case of MPox

Abia state Government says the state has recorded 13 suspected cases of Monkey pox within Isialangwa Local Government Area.


Addressing Newsmen, on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu revealed that 9 out of the cases returned negative with one positive whereas the remaining three are still unconfirmed.


Prince Kanu who disclosed that government has concluded plans to renovate and retrofit 200 existing primary Health Centers across the state before the end of this year pointed out that the project which is being done by the ministry of health in partnership with the Abia state Primary Health Care Development Agency has a delivery period of one hundred days.


On the recovery of public lands taken over by private individuals, Prince Kanu announced that the committee constituted to that effect has swinged into action starting with recovering lands belonging to Government College Umuahia, assuring that government will not back out from the exercise no matter the pressure.


Adding her voice on the public land recovery initiative of the state government, the commissioner for Tertiary Education Professor Uche Eme Uche said that all buildings in any recovered public land will be converted for public use while efforts are on to address the issue of under-payment of some primary school teachers in some LGAS.
Speaking On Road infrastructural development agenda of the state government, the Commissioner for information said a total of 108 roads have been maintained and rehabilitated across the state through direct labour while work is ongoing on some strategic roads.

According to him that the design for the Ntigha- Umuala road is in process while those of the expansion of Abia Tower-Onuimo road and Bende-Onuinyang roads are almost completed.
