Abia Govt Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Incite Violent Protest Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Abia State Government has raised concerns over an alleged plan by political actors to sponsor a violent protest aimed at destabilizing the state and discrediting its developmental efforts.

In a statement issued on April 3, 2026, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, disclosed that intelligence reports indicate that some opposition figures are mobilizing individuals, described as miscreants from Aba and neighboring states, to stage a protest tagged “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop.”

According to the government, the planned protest is part of a broader attempt to promote what it described as a false narrative that the Federal Government of Nigeria funded projects executed by the state government, including federal road constructions.

Ekeoma noted that the state government had previously clarified that refunds from the Federal Government for such projects had ceased. However, he alleged that those behind the planned protest intend to escalate tensions, potentially triggering clashes with the state task force in Aba.

The government warned that such confrontations could lead to loss of lives, reprisals, and a breakdown of law and order, ultimately creating instability in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While reiterating its commitment to democratic principles and tolerance of dissent, the government emphasized that it would not tolerate any action capable of endangering public safety.

“The government has no issues with disagreement or opposition,” the statement read, “but will deal decisively with any individual or group that attempts to jeopardize the lives and peace of Abia people under the guise of political protest.”

The administration also called on parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against participating in politically motivated demonstrations, warning of serious consequences.

The Abia State Government reaffirmed its resolve to maintain peace and ensure an open political environment where all stakeholders can pursue their ambitions without fear, intimidation, or violence.
