Abia hosts 63rd Annual Meeting of Nigeria National Committee of WAEC, hails body’s commitment to curbing exam malpractice

The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC), has been lauded over its intensified efforts to curb examination malpractice, promote fairness, honesty and discipline among students across all schools.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti made the commendation in Umuahia, during the 63rd annual meeting of the Nigeria National Committee of WAEC.

Represented by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, Otti noted the meeting being held in the state, underscored the State’s steady reforms in school infrastructure, teacher capacity and learning outcomes.

He described the meeting as more than a statutory engagement, but a rare opportunity for stakeholders to reflect, collaborate and strengthen the future of millions of Nigerian learners.

The Chairman of the Nigeria National Committee of WAEC, Hajiya Binta Abdulkadir stated that the Examination body would introduce Computer Based examination for school candidates in line with the detects of the National Assembly as she disclosed that extensive training and pilot tests would be carried out to familiarise students with digital response formats.

The Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr Amos Josiah Dangut, noted that the Committee’s meeting remains the Council’s highest policy forum in the country, entrusted with shaping decisions that affect millions of young people.

Dr Dangut described Abia State as an ideal host, praising the Government’s hospitality and its investment in education.

He reaffirmed WAEC’s commitment to deepening technology driven processes, including digital marking, electronic certificate management, the use of quick response codes, e learning platforms and real time service portals that expand access to the Council’s services.

At the event, outstanding students and schools across Nigeria received national recognition as well as cash prizes ranging from 500,000 thousand naira to 2.5 million naira.

One of the outstanding students; Ajisafe Koribola Olamilekan of Iman Foundation collage Osun state maintained that without education, one is nothing.
