A former Commissioner in Abia State and Chieftain of the PDP, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, has called on Governor Alex Otti to take urgent measures to save citizens from dying of hunger.

Okiyi who made this plea while speaking on Family Love FM’s Open Parliament suggested measures that can be taken to help the poor and vulnerable persons in the state expressed worry on the number of young people resorting to suicide as he called on Governor Alex Otti to take urgent measures to inject money into the economy and temporarily suspend payment to contractors as according to him “Only the living enjoy infrastructures like road and bridges”.

He suggested that the governor pays hardship allowance of N100k to workers in level 1-8 and N50k to those in level 9-16 for a minimum period of 6 months as well as urged for the reversal of those laid off by the present administration stressing that it won’t cost our state more than N800m a month to keep them employed as he suggested the suspension of all revenue drives except for that of corporate bodies to further ease the pain of the poor.
