Abia online media practitioners set to tour 17 LGAs to ascertain dividends of governance by Chairmen two years down the line

In continuation of her resolve to uphold transparency and accountability in our democratic governance in the State,the Abia Online Media Publishers,member of Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN) will embark on press tour in the 17 LGAs of the State with a view to identifying as well as publish developmental landmarks of the Local government administration.

The Online media body made this known in a statement jointly signed by the State chairman of OMPAN chief Paddy Anyatonwu and the secretary Steve Unegbu on Thursday, October 13, 2022 and made available to Newsmen in Umuahia the state capital.

The association pointed out that the essence of the tour is for fact-checking and to appraise the journey of the now almost two years in the saddle by the Executive chairmen.

According to the statement “The tour will help the media practitioners to present accurate, balanced and timely information as well as review their performances in the last two years.

It added that the tour will also afford the LGA Executive chairmen the opportunity to disclose to the media how democracy has developed their areas”

The Association assured in the statement that the media will continue to subject political office holders to public scrutiny and to question their policies as well as competences and most importantly serve as watchdogs of the society.

The statement further assured that OMPAN will not relent in playing her primary oversight role of speaking out to ensure everyone is playing by the rules and feeding the public with objective information to increase accountability in governance in Abia state.
